About the Writing Center
From First-Year Seminar to Senior Capstone Experience, the Writing Center is here to help you with any writing project, in any course or subject area. Our peer writing consultants are experienced student writers who come from a variety of majors and are prepared to help you no matter what you are working on or where you are in the writing process.
What happens in a Writing Center session?
A session with a peer writing consultant lasts for 50 minutes. You and the consultant will read and discuss the project you are working on. By the time you leave the Writing Center you'll have a clearer sense of where you want to go next and some strategies to help you get there.
What can I bring to the Writing Center?
You can come to the Writing Center to work on any kind of writing project, from research essays, to lab reports or creative writing.
- brainstorm at the start of an assignment
- develop and support an argument
- clarify your paper’s organization, transition, and flow
- engage in research and cite sources effectively
- revise and clarify sentences
- complete your Senior Capstone/Thesis project
- craft personal statements for internships, scholarships, and graduate school applications
- make progress with any writing you are working on!
In fact, you don't have to have anything written to come to the Writing Center. Bring your assignment, and we'll help you get started.
Do you enjoy writing and working with peers?
Consider applying to become a paid peer writing consultant! Applications for the Fall 2022 cohort of tutors have closed. Be on the lookout in September of 2022 for information about joining our 2023 cohort!
Joining a Writing Community
Are you working on a large-scale writing project this semester, or juggling multiple writing assignments? Consider joining the weekly Writing Group.
