Students in the Brown Advisory Student-Managed Investment Program enjoyed a special event earlier this week - a Conversation with Sheila Bair. Bair, who currently chairs Fannie Mae - and is the first female to hold that position - is former head of the FDIC and a former Washington College president. She has had a long and distinguished career in government, academia and finance, having twice been named by Forbes Magazine as one of the most powerful women in the world. During this event, students heard directly from Bair and had the opportunity to ask their questions. Connections and opportunities like these are just one example of what makes the Washington College experience so meaningful. Many thanks to Sheila for sharing that time with us - it was an unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance!

Brown Advisory Student-Managed Investment Fund Program is Experiential Learning at its Best

Washington College’s campus is pretty typical of most, with backpack-clad students in hoodies, sweats, and other casual apparel making their way to and from classes, meals, meetings and practices. Except, that is, on Wednesday mornings at 8 AM. That’s when about 20 students dressed in business attire arrive at Daly Hall and spend 90 minutes evaluating and making investment decisions on over $1 million in equities.

First Place in 2021 and 2020 Undergraduate Value Portfolio Competition

Washington College’s Brown Advisory Student-Managed Investment Fund won the first place prize in the Undergraduate Value Portfolio category in 2020, outperforming 40 other schools based on calendar year 2019 performance. In 2021, based on calendar year 2020 performance, Washington College’s Investment Fund has won first place in the Value Portfolio category again.
