Brown Advisory Student-Managed Investment Fund

The Brown Advisory Student-Managed Investment Fund Program offers a unique opportunity for students to develop and utilize their investment skills by providing real-life investing experience. Originally founded as the Alex. Brown Student-Managed Investment Fund and recently renamed to honor the fund’s founder’s firm, the program oversees a student-managed fund of hundreds of thousands of dollars in equities. Students participating in the program have front-line responsibility for researching, recommending, and executing equity trades. The program includes field trips to finance markets and conferences, extensive interaction with mentors in the field, and ongoing research and learning opportunities that help prepare motivated, talented students for careers in the investment field. The investment program is open to all majors who are interested in gaining knowledge of the real investment world or planning to work in the finance industry after graduation.

First Place in 2020 Undergraduate Value Portfolio Competition

For the past several years, Quinnipiac University has held a very successful conference in New York City to interact with a wide range of financial industry leaders and students from colleges and universities across the globe. The Global Asset Management Education (GAME) Forum X was scheduled for late March 2020 but unfortunately had to be cancelleddue to the COVID-19 pandemic. This 2 1/2 day forum brings financial experts together to participate with students and discuss a wide range of topics and further explore in workshops and breakout panels.

In addition, participating colleges were encouraged to enroll their respective student-run investment funds in a Global Portfolio Competition. With over 1,500 participants registered to attend, representing 158 colleges and universities, Washington College’s Brown Advisory Student-Managed Investment Fund won the first place prize in the Undergraduate Value Portfolio category, outperforming 40 other schools based on calendar year 2019 performance.

Congratulations to the students from the last year who contributed to this performance as well as those currently enrolled in the program and to all of the alums who have participated for many years since the Fund’s inception. Also, a special thanks to Jim Price who had the foresight and appreciation for experiential learning for Washington College students by creating this Fund.
