    Major: Chemistry

After graduating from Washington College in 2013, I completed a post-baccalaureate research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD (NIDCR) .  I then went on to attend the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2019.  I continued my clinical training as a General Practice Resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital where I was responsible for providing comprehensive oral health care for both inpatients and outpatients including general dental care as well as on-call and emergency dentistry services.  I gained experience with dental management of medically complex patients including those with cardiovascular disease, head and neck cancer, hematologic disorders, and other special needs.  As a result of my experiences, I would like to emphasize the need for research and evidence-based practice.  I now practice as a General Dentist in Bel Air, MD and, when not working, enjoy painting, woodworking, and being outdoors.

    Favorite Classes and Professors

It's hard to choose a favorite class. I attended so many engaging courses at WAC and had many inspiring professors.  I suppose my Chemistry and Biology classes were the most consuming of my time and energy, but it the best way possible.  I would like to acknowledge Dr. Lipchock, my thesis advisor and Biophysics professor, for his mentorship and encouragement in my last year at WAC and into the present.  Also, Dr. Verville for her many hours of advice in my pre-professional journey and to the entire Chemistry faculty for all the fun hours in and out of classes.

    Fondest WC Memory

Honestly? All that time I spent at the tables in Toll, socializing and studying with friends. I never found another study spot like that in dental school.

Let's Hear It for the Liberal Arts

Professionally, WAC gave me an appreciation for scientific research and evidence-based practice which has greatly impacted how I approach dental care.  Personally, it made me appreciate connections with people and family.  Study hard, work hard, but find time to spend with loved ones.

    Advice

Enjoy your time at WAC as much as possible.  Value your faculty—they have a lot of knowledge and skills and advice that you have access to right now.
