Alumni Decade Representatives (Reps)
A decade representative is an alumnus who assists the office of Advancement, Alumni
and Constituent Engagement with enhancing the overall alumni experience — from personalized
communications, event intel, insider news and more.
Using a peer-to-peer model, connecting as our alumni do best, the decade representative
will represent Washington through personal outreach to classmates and their network.
Essential Responsibilities and Commitment of the Role
- Length of Term: one year
- Willingness to reach out to alumni via social media, email, phone or note-writing
- Willingness to support major events and fundraising periods
- Shared belief in the mission and vision of Washington College
Example Activities
- Forward the “Word from Washington” to a friend or two
- Share Washington social media posts
- Partner with Washington to author outreach materials
- Provide quotes around “Why I give,” “Why I’m involved”
- Create your own and encourage submission of Alumni profiles
- Attend one of the three marquis campus events and bring friends: Flocktoberfest, Spring Migration or Commencement Weekend
- Share WC information, events, news and giving opportunities with contacts throughout the year
- Serve as a social media influencer by sharing and reposting college social posts
- Be a liaison between Washington and alumni by providing feedback to WC
- Support efforts to collect alumni profiles, encourage alumni to share class notes and encourage attendance at Washington events.
- Make Washington your philanthropic priority, at the level at which you are comfortable.
- Contact fellow alumni (classmates or peers) in an effort to secure at least ten donors to the Washington Fund or another area of WC that is meaningful to them.
- Help the college to thank friends and classmates for making a gift
- Communicate with other volunteers and Washington staff manager on your progress and outreach
- Heightened engagement with and access to college staff and resources
- Access to alumni contact information and resources around social media content, language, etc.
- Personal and professional growth and development through volunteer engagement with Washington College.
- Advanced insight into "behind the scenes” with opportunities for feedback and review
- Celebration of Decade Chair efforts, via our alumni newsletter, webpage, magazine, and at events
Participation not expected on ALL dates/time periods:
- Fall Semester (September 1 – 31)
- Giving Day (October 26)
- Flocktoberfest (October 27 and 28)
- Giving Tuesday (Tuesday after Thanksgiving)
- Spring Migration (April 20-22)
- Fiscal Year End (May 1 – May 31)
- Commencement and Reunion Weekend
