Events in Chestertown

Two College locations stand alone downtown: the Custom House—home to the Washington College Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience—and MuSE: A Community Museum. A walking tour and a new pub in a familiar location on High Street round out the activities.

MuSE: A Community Museum is hosted by the Center for Environment and Society, this public space in downtown Chestertown exhibits collaborations between students, faculty, staff, and the wider community.

Stop by to see the current exhibit, Nest Alchemy. This thought-provoking series was created by Deirdre Murphy, a contemporary visual artist who explores the intersection of art and science through the lenses of natural patterns, data visualization, and climate change. This exhibit investigates bird nests throughout the four seasons, celebrating the architectural wonders of avian species.

Join the Starr Center for some Hands-On History as participants cut their own quills, make ink, and seal their own letters with wax, all using eighteenth-century methods and techniques. All materials are supplied and participants walk away with their own hand-carved quill. Suitable for participants ages 14 and older.

Learn about Chestertown's dynamic African-American history with an architectural tour. Participants will join the Starr Center's Chesapeake Heartland community historians and learn about the rich cultural heritage of Chestertown, past and present.

Join us for a special evening at Betty’s—newly renovated but forever cherished in our memories. Formerly known as O’Connor’s, this beloved spot has been a cornerstone for countless laughs, late nights, and shared stories. Now refreshed for a new chapter, it’s the perfect place to reconnect with fellow alumni, reminisce about old times, and celebrate the bonds that make our community so special.
