Advising
Our advising program supports the College’s dedication to the liberal arts and student success. Advisors work with students beyond just registering for classes—together advisors and students consider future growth and careers, ensure students are connected to resources on campus, and encourage involvement in the extensive campus community.
Academic Advisors
For your first year, your advisor is generally also your First-Year Seminar professor, allowing you to get to know one another inside the classroom and making it easier to stay in contact. A summer advisor will help you select your courses for your first semester, including your FYS.
Once you declare your major, your advisor is a faculty member within that department—double majors have one advisor from each department. Our faculty get to know you, your interests, and your future goals. Advisors not only work with you to choose the courses you need to graduate, they also guide you toward ones best suited to your individual interests, talents, and goals.
SCE Advisors

Our students working on their Senior Capstone Experience (SCE) select an advisor to work with as they complete their research and writing—double majors have one advisor from each department. SCE advisors work with students on project concepts, work through difficult ideas, meet continuously with their advisees throughout the SCE process, and more. Your SCE advisor can be, but does not have to be, your academic advisor.
Career Advisors
Students also have a career advisor, a staff member from the Center for Career Development, who works with them throughout their time at Washington. Career advisors serve as another person getting to know you and your career goals. Through this partnership, students learn how to prepare documents for job applications, complete mock interviews, and more.
