What do you get when you mix acclaimed musicians, local teenagers, college students, community partners, college professors, and museum curators? You get Chesapeake Heartland’s 2021 Hip Hop Time Capsule! Over five weeks this past summer, the Project paid interns to interpret Kent County’s African American history through the medium of Hip Hop. And the results were nothing short of amazing! Album covers using historic images from the Heartland’s own digital archive. . .original beats set to the sampling local gospel music from the 1980s. . . and spoken word that builds on African American history while addressing the struggles of the Black community today.

This virtual event will be an opportunity to celebrate the students’ accomplishments, hear what they learned from the opportunity, and listen to their musical creations. Join us to learn more about this innovative program and the impact it’s having on the local community.
