Requirements: Minors in English
English Minor
For students matriculating fall 2019 and after:
The English Minor can be achieved through the successful completion of:
Gateway: 2 courses (8 credits) at the lower-level in English.
All courses in English at the 200 level will count for as lower-level courses for the minor (excepting ENG 205/206).
1 course at the 100 level, either English 101 or English 103, can count for the minor.
Upper-Level Courses: 4 courses (16 credits) at the 300/400 level in English
All courses in English literature at the 300/400 level will count as upper-level courses, as will ENG 205/206.
4 credits of internships or practicum taken in the English department can count.
1 upper-level Creative Writing workshop at the 300/400 level can count.
Minors may take the English junior seminar in the fall of their junior year, but are not required to do so.
Total Required Courses: 6 courses (24 credits).
For students matriculating previous to fall 2019:
Any five courses at the 300/400-level, including those labeled as “special topics,” are required for a minor in English. ENG 205/206 Shakespeare I & II will also count for the minor.
Creative Writing Minor
For students matriculating fall 2018 and after:
The creative writing minor can be achieved through the successful completion of six (6) courses (24 credits) and attendance at six (6) literary events.

For students matriculating previous to fall 2018:
The minor in creative writing can be achieved through the successful completion of five courses—Introduction to Creative Writing and then any combination of four of the 300-400 level courses indicated below as well as designated “special topics” courses.

Journalism, Editing & Publishing (JEP) Minor
Students must take a total of six (6) courses (22-24 credits) and attend six (6) literary events to complete the JEP minor. Special topics courses, which will also count in some categories, will vary each semester.
