Rollins-Luetkemeyer Foundation Commits $1.5 Million to Expand Scholarship Access to Washington College’s Hogan Institute
Gift and matching challenge will generate $4.5 million for middle-income students.
Washington College has received a $1.5 million commitment from the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Foundation to provide scholarships for middle-income students participating in the College’s Hogan Institute. The gift, the most significant commitment made to the Institute to date, will create the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Scholars within the Hogan Scholars program and expand access to a Washington College education for students and families who may not qualify for substantial need-based financial aid.
As a condition of the Foundation’s commitment, Washington College is required to raise an additional $3 million in qualifying scholarship support—a 2:1 match of two dollars for every dollar contributed by the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Foundation. When the match is completed, the initiative will generate a total of $4.5 million in scholarship support for deserving students.
“We are profoundly grateful to the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Foundation for its transformational investment in our students,” said Washington College President Bryan Matthews. “Middle-income families often face challenges in financing a college education, yet they may not qualify for the level of need-based assistance available to other students. This commitment will help Washington College close that gap while giving talented young people the opportunity to benefit from the exceptional education and leadership experiences offered through the Hogan Institute.”
The Rollins-Luetkemeyer Scholars in the Hogan Scholars program will participate in the Institute’s programming focused on civil discourse, ethical leadership, public service, and civic engagement. Through interaction with public officials, policy experts, business leaders, faculty members, and other distinguished guests, students will develop the knowledge, judgment, and leadership skills needed to serve their communities and the nation.
The Hogan Institute at Washington College honors the legacy of Governor Larry Hogan and advances a mission centered on principled leadership, constructive dialogue, and public service. The Institute brings together students, faculty members, policymakers, civic leaders, and distinguished practitioners to address important public issues and prepare the next generation of thoughtful, civically engaged leaders.
