What began as an internship project for Miranda Parrish ’25 has evolved into a landmark scholarship program and a college pipeline for Maryland’s next generation of civic leaders. Jocelyn Ball '29 spoke at this year's conference as a student after attending as a service corps member the year before.
Up to 10 service Members will be awarded $33,000 each year for 4 years. The announcement was made at the 3rd Annual All Corps Maryland Corps/Service Year Option Program event with Maryland’s Department of Service and Civic Innovation.
Since graduating from Washington with a double major in history and theatre, most of Scott’s writing projects have been inspired by historical events. The power of theatre to imbue historical events with emotional power is one of the things that she values about the art form. Her latest work had its world premiere at at the Delaware Theatre Company in Wilmington, Scott’s hometown, last year, and her next world premiere is in February in Philadelphia.
The class is one of more than a dozen options in the Washington College First Year Seminar (FYS) program, which introduces students to writing, research, presentation, and other important skills needed throughout their collegiate careers through unique course offerings that explore faculty interests.
