Living as our full selves can take some work! To help you engage more deeply with your own identity and others', as well as to find the support you might need, Intercultural Affairs maintains the lists of resources below.
Resources and Initiatives
We are committed to providing resources and initiatives to help our diverse student community.
First-Generation Student Resources
What makes you a first-generation college student?
A first-generation college student is defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a bachelor's degree.
Being first-generation is a very proud accomplishment. We recognize that you will face unique experiences as you begin this exciting journey, and we look forward to supporting you.
What can I do on campus?
- Become a part of the Student Government Association
- Join a club!
- Not sure what events are going on for students? Check out the Student Events Board Calendar. If you're passing by in Hodson Hall, you'll always see the next upcoming events.
Need academic support?
The Office of Academic Support is located on the top floor of Miller Library. This is where you go if you need accommodations for class (note taker, etc.) or if you need test accommodations. They also help coordinate peer tutors along with course mentoring.
We also have the Writing Center which is located on the first floor of Goldstein Hall. This is where you would go if you need help with an essay or your thesis.
Worried about your math homework or having an exam coming up? Don't worry, you can always check out the Quantitative Skills Center which is located on the first floor of Miller Library.
Questions about Career and Job opportunities?
Make sure that you visit our colleagues in Career Development, located in the Rebecca Corbin Loree Center next to Goldstein Hall. They can answer any questions you might have about your future career, from building your resume, to internship opportunities, and more!

Religious Resources
Washington College is a religiously and spiritually diverse community. We welcome students of every religious background and tradition and aim to give all students the resources they need to be able to practice their faith accordingly, as well as interfaith and secular spaces for quiet contemplation, such as the Kirwan Meditation Garden. Additionally, students can find the Interfaith Center inside the Intercultural Center. The Interfaith Center has a private prayer space and is available to provide support to students seeking to connect with students of similar faith.
The Rev. Caitlan Gartland of Presbyterian Church of Chestertown partners with the College to lead meditation in the Interfaith Center on Wednesdays and holds interfaith chaplain office hours in the center on Sundays.
