Crafting a Career

Bin  Nguyen

Class of 2023 • Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
When Van Nguyen ’23, otherwise known as Bin around campus, was exploring her academic options, she knew she wanted to follow in her parents’ footsteps and enter the world of business and economics.

An international student from Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam, Bin knew she wanted to major in Business. Here at Washington College she discovered her passion for Marketing and International Business, and eventually declared a double minor in the fields.

Kicking off her summer as an intern for the Career Center of Development, Bin’s work was all-encompassing in the fields of marketing and content creation; “I [was] in charge of communication, marketing and creating campaigns for workshops and Career Center material in advance for the next school year. My work focuses on research and analyzing data, creating, and decorating campaigns, posting on social media, and planning out material in advance for each event, workshop and meeting of the next school year.”

While her summer was packed to the brim, Bin thoroughly enjoyed her internship and the opportunities it provided to improve both her workplace skills and personal achievements – from becoming more confident in communicating with others, to becoming professionally trained in technology skills and application.

Aside from her work in the Career Center itself, part of the RCL internship included meeting with fellow interns and building connections as they moved through the summer; “I love hearing about their stories and experiences [and] I found myself some great friends to hang out with during the summer thanks to the group meetings.”

This coming academic year, Bin is looking forward to putting her improved skills to the test as a Resident Assistant, member of the Washington College Tennis Team, and continuing member of the Career Center’s dedicated interns.

Following her upcoming graduation in 2023, Bin hopes to save up and open her own business, inspired by her parents’ success in the world of business; “My parents are my role models and my life goal. I want to be successful like [them].”
