It’s Thanksgiving Time!

A time for a brief respite before finals, spending time with friends and family, and eating a home-cooked meal.
Some of us might be starting new traditions, such as Friendsgiving, or entering adulthood
by cooking and bringing a dish. The Miller Library Tech Services staff have combed
through our collection of local Maryland cookbooks for some tempting dishes.
First, people need something to nibble on; this Cheese Roll from A Cook’s Tour of the Eastern Shore is just the right amount of savory.
Veggies are a must as sides, and this is the time of year when they are cooked with
spices and even brown sugar.
Here, from Cooking in Maryland: Beyond Beer and Crabs, is a classic Yam Casserole with a tomato twist

There is also a recipe for the controversial Lima Bean
A new addition to our local cookbook collection is the 1977 The Woman’s Eastern Shore Society of Maryland Cook Book, and it gives us the Main Course Vallegant Wild Goose (sorry Gus) with Dressing.

You can serve it with their Cranberry Orange Relish

And sip on this Hot Spiced Cranberry Tea

Now for Dessert! Maybe it’s time to slip into some more comfortable and expandable clothing or take a brisk walk in the crisp Autumn air. Either way, it’s time for a little sweet before submitting to the pleasant sleep of the food coma Thanksgiving inevitably brings. May we suggest Ivalee. P. Wheatley’s Sweet Potato Cake from A Book of Favorite Recipes compiled by The Order of the Eastern Star.
