In 2012, the field hockey team reached the Centennial Conference Tournament for the third consecutive year and was named a recipient of the National Academic Team Award, given to field hockey programs who achieve a cumulative team GPA above 3.0. These two accomplishments embody the Washington College program’s standards for excellence on and off the field.
On October 17, 2012, the team defeated Ursinus College, a first in the history of the program. That win reflected the incredible advancement that the Washington College program has made and the excitement that is yet upon them.
The team’s ability to reach post season, from 2010-2012, was in large part a reflection of the amazing contributions of its five seniors, Kristen Wille, Erin Lewns, Hilary Manion, Hillary Kane, and Gabby Tarbert.
This year, the team celebrated the achievements of three student-athletes on the field; Kristen Wille, Hilary Manion, and Claire McAuliffe were recognized as All Conference selections. In addition, Kristen and Claire were acknowledged nationally on the All South Region teams. This was the first time that Washington College Field Hockey has had two athletes selected to the All South Region in a decade.
Scored 41 goals over 19 games
First-ever win over Ursinus, 3-2 in overtime
Hilary Manion scored the game-winning goal at 4:18 into overtime
This is the first time WAC has ever beaten Ursinus in 13 total meetings
