  • Over thirty years of hands-on experience with a spectrum of seafloor mapping systems, including AUVs, ROVs, navigation, side scan sonar, sub bottom profilers, single beam echosounders, multi beam, maggies, and a slew of water quality mapping systems and ADCPs. 

Favorite Past Projects 

My project experience spans mapping rivers in Zaire, oil seep detection off of Cartagena, SA, pipeline and cable route selections in the Gulf of Mexico, Aleutians, and the Med, shipwreck imaging in Thunder Bay, searching for evidence of NOAH’s deluge in the Black Sea, to mapping Ice Sheets in Iceland and Greenland w/ NASA from the air. In the summer of 2010 I advised BP and NOAA regarding strategic mapping of the benthic impacts of oil as a result of Deepwater Horizon (MC-252). 

Favorite Activities 

Fly Fishing for trout – anywhere (Montana??), Kayaking - anywhere, Model Trains (pre war Lionel and HO), Cooking , Running Boats (50 Ton USCG License), Developing STEM Education Programs (Aquabotz, BOBs, BABs), Hanging with Fez, the kids, and grandkids (Charleston, SC), Teaching – K – Gray, Gardening and Stone Work (around the cabin), and learning.
