Leadership Awards Criteria
Washington College Leadership Award. This award is presented to a student who best exemplifies strong leadership qualities. This award recognizes a student as being especially dedicated to both academic and extracurricular activities. This student has made outstanding contributions to campus-wide programs, and displayed positive leadership in and out of the classroom. The nominee for this award may be a student that is compensated for their work.
Organization of the Year Award. This award recognizes the student organization that continues to demonstrate overall, well-rounded success through multiple avenues, such as a diversity of programs, increased member participation, leadership development, and other notable achievements that contribute to the campus community over the academic year. Greek organizations are not eligible for this award as their is a separate Greek category.
Senior of the Year Award. This award is presented to as many as four seniors who have demonstrated active involvement both on the Washington College campus, and in the Chestertown community. All nominees must be seniors (as defined by the College with regards to credits).
Outstanding First Year Award. This award honors a student who has demonstrated superior service to the campus during his or her first year of college. He or she should be a student who shows promise as a future leader on campus. All nominees must have completed at least one semester as a full time student by the time the nomination is received.
Organizational President Award. This award is presented to a President of a Student-run organization on campus. This award recognizes a President who has helped advance the organization internally and increased their presence on campus. This President has displayed a passion for organizational development and the personal growth of his/her members. The nominee for this award may be a student that is compensated for their work. Nominees must have been president of their organization for at least a semester in the 2016-2017 academic year.
Outstanding Contribution to Intercultural Awareness Award. This award recognizes an individual who has made specific contributions to the campus community by promoting intercultural understanding through programming or personal involvement. This person has done a significant amount of work on social justice issues, and fostering an equitable community in which members feel more safe and secure.
Advisor of the Year Award. This award is presented to an organizational advisor who has contributed outstanding service and has helped their organization grow exponentially. The service provided by the nominee must be voluntary, non-compensated activities at Washington College.
Community Service Award. This award honors a student who has contributed outstanding service to the campus. The service provided by the nominee should be voluntary, non-compensated activities at the college, or in the Chestertown community. This award is presented to a student who makes service a priority, and has made an impact on the campus community through service.
Service Project/Fundraising Event of the Year. This award is presented to an organization that promotes dedication to serving others and/or fundraising. This award recognizes an outstanding service project or fundraising event that was held this year to benefit a philanthropic organization.
Leadership in Athletics Awards. This award honors a varsity student-athlete who has made a positive impact on the Washington College community through his or her participation in athletics, in addition to maintaining a leadership role in a student club or organization.
New Program Initiative Award. This award honors an individual or recognized organization that attempted to create a new campus program. The award winner is recognized for their successful use of innovative ideas that have made a noticeable impact on the Washington College campus. I would make sure to include a statement about that this new program must have made a noticeable impact on the college.
Goose Nation Collaboration Award. This award recognizes a group of students or organizations that have contributed in a meaningful way to furthering the quality of the student experience through a series of efforts or activities or one notable event. This award celebrates the contribution to the community as well as the collaborative spirit of the partnering organizations.
Greek Organization of the Year. This award recognizes a Greek organization(s) that best demonstrates a commitment to academics, service, sister/brotherhood, and community. Governing bodies (Panhellenic/IFC) are also eligible for this award.
Sorority Member of the Year. This award honors an individual sorority member that has demonstrated leadership and commitment to panhellenic values over the course of the year. Any student that has been a member of a sorority for one full semester is eligible for this recognition.
Fraternity Member of the Year. This award honors an individual fraternity member that has demonstrated leadership and commitment to fraternal values of the course over the year. Any student that has been a member of a fraternity for one full semester is eligible for this recognition.
