WC Global Voices
Developed and written by English language learners for other English language learners.
Students in ELL 101 publish a newsletter, entitled Global Voices, two times per semester. They work together on this whole-class activity to create the publication, including the design (layout and color palette) and content (text and photographs).
Each edition features reporting on events on campus, student trips, and explanations of American customs and holidays from the perspective of our international students. The editions also feature student-lead interviews: one with a faculty member and the other with a fellow student.
The primary goal of the newsletter is to engage students in ELL 101 in campus life and encourage interaction with faculty and other students. Within the classroom, students assume the roles and responsibilities of assistant editor, reporters, interviewers, and designers in a collaborative learning environment.
