Class of 2013
Major/Minor: English with a minor in Secondary Education

My liberal arts education has been incredibly useful to me throughout my career thus far. As a biology-turned-English major, I took a very wide variety of classes at WAC, and still use much of what I have learned today.

Who was your favorite faculty member?

Three-way tie: Robert Siudzinski (Education), Phil Walsh (English), Martin Connaughton (Biology). It goes without saying that I have learned a crazy amount from this group of men, but they also serve as examples in my own field. As professors, they are also teachers, and I try to emulate what I watched them do for 4 years.

Story? One of these wonderful men stopped in Chicago on a business trip during a summer break. He and I grabbed burgers at a local joint and watched the Portugal - USA World Cup game with a few hundred other people. It was one of my last sendoffs before traveling to Micronesia for a year and he spent part of the time telling me how much I’d love surfing. He was spot on and it’s a memory I’ll cherish.

What is your favorite Washington College memory?

War on the Shore (always #1), as well as great sunny afternoons watching sports on the hill.
