George-Thomas Svanikier

Class of 2017
Major/Minor: Economics / Political Science

I graduated from Washington College in 2017. I am originally from Ghana but went to high school in England. I am very passionate about financial technology, politics and football (soccer).

Campus Involvement

I served as Vice-President of the Economics honor society, Omicron Delta Epsilon, in my senior year.

I also worked as an RA for three semesters before going to the Washington Center for a semester long internship.

The United States Capitol building with the dome lit up at night.

I had the opportunity to intern with Citi Group’s Global Government Affairs office in DC. To be in the political center of the country during the whirlwind 2016 election was an experience I will never forget. I highly recommend the Washington Center program to anyone who is looking to increase their professional experience while still earning a semesters worth of academic credits.

At the beginning of my senior year I was invited to take part in the Washington College to Wall Street program. This was a great opportunity that helped me develop my interest in a financial sector career. Through weekly career classes and a trip to New York to meet with alumni who had pursued such careers, we were able to improve our understanding of the diverse career paths available and what it took to achieve success in the industry.

33In my final semester, I took part in an opportunity that allowed a small group of Washington College students to travel to Omaha, Nebraska to meet and have lunch with Warren Buffett. He bestowed on us great advice regarding life, work and his keys to success.

I love drama and acting. I most recently played Banquo in a senior directing thesis of Macbeth.

I am also passionate about soccer. I played on the club soccer team and acted as its treasurer.
