Charles Berry

Charles is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame. His citation is copied below:

A standout three-sport athlete of the 1930’s, Charlie Berry shone on the football field, basketball court and baseball diamond.

He earned 11 varsity letters during a four year period.

He was a deadly passer and fine runner at halfback in football, lettering all four years and scoring 20 points on Washington College’s undefeated 1934 team.

In basketball he played forward and lettered three years.

On the baseball diamond he was a superb shortstop, lettering for four years and earning All-Maryland honors under Coach Tom Kibler during the 1934 and 1935 campaigns.

On campus he was a leader: president of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, president of Silver Pentagon (ODK), a member of the student council, the Dean’s cabinet, the Varsity Club and the Inter-fraternity Council.

After college he recorded an outstanding coaching career in football, basketball, baseball and track and field at Wicomico Senior High School in Salisbury (MD).

Now retired, one of his hobbies is to sculpture miniature waterfowl from wood and his works have been shown throughout the United States and in foreign countries.
