Hjordis Lorenz

Class of 2016

Hjordis is an international four year student from Germany at Washington College. She plans to major in Clinical Psychology with a minor in Spanish. On campus she is involved in the Psychology club, the Vice President of Caring for Kids, part of Enactus, the Spanish club, and she is a course mentor for General Pyschology. She also volunteers at the Family Support Center in Sudlersville teaching English to Hispanic mothers.

For the past two years, she has been working at GIS on various crime mapping assignments (ArcMap) under the Governors Office of Crime Control and Prevention  Grant (GOCCP) such as mapping locations of domestic violence, homocides and shootings or of recently released offenders. She has also worked for the Maryland Highway Safety Office (MHSO), focusing on DUI mapping and analysis.

She was interested in working at GIS because it combines criminal behavior she learned about in class with real world data. For her future she is very interested in the interplay of crime and psychology.
