Ted Knight

Ted Knight has been passionate about music for as long as he can remember.

Growing up with five older siblings, he was able to name all four members of Led Zeppelin by the age of 3. He started out on drums as a small boy, but later picked up guitar and played in a couple of bands with friends in high school. After arriving at Washington College, he played in three different bands with fellow alumni: Who-Hash, Ghostbox, and Astralyte. All three of the bands focused on writing original music together, celebrating the creative process encouraged by Washington College’s liberal arts education. Ghostbox reformed for the Washington College 2009 Reunion Weekend, and is enjoying playing out together again. Learn more about their upcoming performances at

When he is not playing music, Ted serves as Director of External Relations at the University of Maryland’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the second largest department on the College Park campus, and one of the top 20 programs in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges and Best Graduate Schools. He has worked for ten years in higher education communications, including as Web Editor for Washington College. He has served as a public relations consultant for a variety of different clients, including educational and non-profit organizations, government, small businesses, and corporate clients. Much of his current work revolves around development, partnership building, and fund raising, in addition to public relations. He earned his B.A. in Philosophy from Washington College in 1997 and an M.A. in Public Communication from American University in 2004.
