Elizabeth Lazo ’93
Like all graduating seniors, Elizabeth “Lizzy” O’Hara Lazo ’93 received her diploma and departed campus to begin life in the real world. Lucky for WC, she left one thing behind—her heart.
A dedicated volunteer and active supporter of her alma mater since her graduation, Lizzy has attended College events, acted as a Class Representative, and Co-chaired the DC Alumni Chapter. This year, she is one of the newest members to join WC’s President’s Leadership Council. Lizzy formerly served on the Alumni Board as Chair of The Washington Fund Committee.
“In my senior year, my family and I experienced a terrible tragedy. I received so much help from the College community during that rough time. Despite the bad circumstances, I made it to the finish line and graduated on time. I realize I couldn’t have done it without the support I received from the College. My family and I will always be grateful for that, and I will always do what I can to support WC,” Lizzy remarked. That support meant a lot to her family, who ended up sending Lizzy’s sister, Mary Ryan O’Hara Newkirk ’99, to Washington College as well.
It is fitting that Lizzy’s newest volunteer role focuses on garnering support for the College. As the new Chair of the Washington Fund Committee on the Alumni Board, she encourages alumni to support The Washington Fund.
Lizzy O’Hara started O’Hara Federal Strategies in Washington, DC in 2011 with her father, Bartley M. O’Hara. With nearly 20 years of public policy experience (including over a decade on Capitol Hill working for former Democratic Leader Richard A. Gephardt [D-MO] and Congressman Thomas Manton [D-NY]), Lizzy brings to the table a positive reputation on both sides of the aisle and strong knowledge of the inner workings of Capitol Hill and the regulatory arena.
