Ralph Snyderman, M.D.

Class of 1961

Dr. Snyderman ‘61 is Chancellor Emeritus at Duke University, where he was the former Chancellor for Health Affairs and the first President and CEO of the Duke University Health System.  He previously served as Senior Vice President at Genentech, a leading biotechnology firm and before that was the Hanes Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center.  Dr. Snyderman is the recipient of numerous scientific awards, including the two top awards worldwide for inflammation research.  He served as President of the Association of American Physicians, Chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges, and is frequently called upon by Congress and other policymakers as a participant in the debate on health care reform.  He received the Washington College Alumni Association Citation in 1996 and an honorary degree in 2004 for outstanding achievement in the field of medicine.  Ralph is a member of the 1782 Society, and made the first Board commitment (a gift of $100,000) to the new science-building project.
