Caroline Harvey

Class of 2018
Major/Minor: English major, creative writing minor

1. What was the book from your childhood that has influenced you the most?

When I was in middle school, I was introduced to the book Jurassic Park, which made me realize that I could connect science and writing.

2. Of all the texts you have studied at Washington College, which has had the most powerful impact on you?

Prelude to Bruise by Saeed Jones was the first contemporary poetry book I really loved, and it showed me that I could write books of poetry feasibly.

3. Who are your literary or intellectual influences?

Recently, I’ve been listening a lot to the Poetry Foundation’s VS podcast with Franny Choi and Danez Smith. I would also say I’ve been influenced by a lot of literary theory, particularly queer theory.

4. What are your plans for after graduation?

No idea! I’m moving in with my best friends and that’s all I know. Later, I plan on pursuing an MFA and a PhD.
