Hanson Robbins - Special Events

Hanson is a graduate of Harvard majoring in history, and Columbia Business School. He attended Navy’s Officer’s Candidate School right out of college and served on a radar picket ship in the Atlantic for 3 years. His career was in finance in the Boston area. Hanson has always been a history buff and from college through the present he is an avid and accomplished sailor.

Upon retiring in 1995, he and his wife Linda bought an Island Packet cutter and cruised the entire east coast over a five-year period. They then traded the sailboat for a Grand Banks trawler and cruised it as far east as Halifax, as far west as Kingston, Ontario, as well as Lake Champlain, the Abacos and Florida’s west coast.

Hanson and Linda moved to Chestertown in 2007, joining the Chester River Yacht and Country Club, only to discover that the “yacht” part was non-existent. He and Linda pitched in to help a small group of like-minded members resuscitate the yachting activity there. He served as

Commodore from 2011 -2013, and taught junior and adult sailing from its revival in 2009 to the present time. Sailing is once again thriving at CRY&CC.

He spends significant time reading history as well as traveling to famous military sites. In the spring of 2016 he taught a WC-ALL course entitled “Navies Throughout History” examining navies starting in ancient times and concluding with a survey of largest navies of the present day. Currently he is studying the history of yacht design that may become a course offering someday.
