Todd Del Priore
Class of 1987
Major/Minor: Mathematics and Computer Science with a minor in Business Management
My Math thesis was on Fractals. Solving the problems Junior and Senior year did teach one what was possible and presenting them to your peers and faculty also proved to be a useful skill.
How has your liberal arts education influenced you? How do you apply your LAE in your current career?
I am sure it has contributed to my cross discipline career path and people skills. Communications, both verbal and written are two of the often underrated skills in business. These were stressed and measured throughout my time at WC.
Who was your favorite faculty/staff member? Story?
I spent a lot of time in the Writer’s Workshop my freshman year, the impact they had on my writing was truly foundational in my success at WC.
What is your favorite Washington College memory?
Rowing on the Chester River as the sun rose.
Did your Senior Capstone Experience (or thesis project) have a major influence on your future career or your personal growth? If so, please explain what your SCE entailed and how it influenced who or where you are today.
Not particularly, my Math thesis was on Fractals. Solving the problems Junior and Senior year did teach one what was possible and presenting them to your peers and faculty also proved to be a useful skill. I worked for the computer center the summer after I graduated, where I assisted Tim Kirk in networking a number of the dorms. Networking personal computers (Macs) in mid 1987 was very new stuff. This played a key role in my first “real” job.
It is your graduation day. What advice would you now give your younger self?
First: Relax! Second: Realize change is ok and often good.
Are you a member of the Alumni Legacy Program (new for 2017) Did one or both of your parents attend Washington College?
My Father and Sister each attended WC and my younger Son is in the class of 2018.
- Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK)
- WC Rowing Association (W.C.R.A.)
How did your experience in Athletics influence your college experience?
Discipline. Rowing inherently made you practice time management, knowing that the boat only went out with 8 guys was also a motivation to be there and on time.
