Follow your dreams, don’t hold back on anything because you really can do what you want to do and you really can be anywhere you want to be.

How has your liberal arts education influenced you? How do you apply your LAE in your current career?

I would say it PREPARED me to enter the world. I was NOT ready for the world when I graduated High School, but I was confident and ready when I graduated from WC. I was more confident in my relationships and my abilities. In my case, it prepared me for Graduate School, where I was able to narrow my focus.

Who was your favorite faculty/staff member? Story?

Dr. John Owen. On the first day of class, Dr. Owen went over the syllabus and then said you could leave. Or, you could stay, and he would teach the class his method of “How to study less, party more, and increase your GPA”. I stayed, and my GPA went from 2.25 to the Deans List every semester after that. I used his technique for Grad School, as well as professional certifications.

What is your favorite Washington College memory?

The last night I spent at WC, I slept out by the Elm Tree in a sleeping bag, all by myself. Not sure why I did that, but I remember it to this day.

It is your graduation day. What advice would you now give your younger self?

Follow your dreams, don’t hold back on anything because you really can do what you want to do and you really can be anywhere you want to be.

Did your Senior Capstone Experience (or thesis project) have a major influence on your future career or your personal growth? If so, please explain what your SCE entailed and how it influenced who or where you are today.

I expanded on my SCE when I returned to get my Masters Degree, so it was very helpful to have a jump start on a project. I would say definitely pick a SCE that will help you later, put a lot of thought into it.

How did your experience in Athletics influence your college experience?

I only did it one semester, and it took too much time away from study.
