Karen Jones

Assistant Director of Communications

Karen has made a long career of strategic communications, marketing, editorial writing and publishing, and digital content production.

She started as a consumer magazine writer/editor, culminating in a position as editor-in-chief of a national travel membership magazine. She next worked as senior writer at Marriott International headquarters, producing the corporation’s frequent traveler rewards materials, among other communications.

In 1996, Karen launched her own marketing communications business, spending 13 years creating strategic web and print content for corporate, nonprofit and educational clients. Turning toward higher education interests, she spent the next four years as assistant director of media relations and interim publications editor for Susquehanna University, and another year working as communications director for the Institute for Humane Education.

Her clients have ranged from Bucknell University to the National Science Foundation to the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays. Her publishing credits include Woman’s Day, Natural Health, the Dallas Morning News and Delaware Beach Life, to name just a few. Karen is also the author of the award-winning book The Difference a Day Makes: 365 Ways to Change Your World in Just 24 Hours, published by New World Library in 2005.

As assistant director of communications focused on College Advancement, Karen conceives and produces communications to current and prospective donors by writing content for print and digital channels, including web stories, email campaigns, press releases, magazine pieces, brochures and other collateral. She identifies and writes web and magazine stories that recognize donors and showcase funding outcomes, and manages Advancement/Giving web page content.
