Class of 2017
Major/Minor: Environmental Studies; Earth and Planetary Sciences/Anthropology; Chesapeake Regional Studies
Being a lifelong learner who enjoys being outside, Katie found a home in the ENV department. Having experienced taking the classroom atmosphere out on a kayak trip, on a camping adventure, or out to a farm field, she can’t imagine a better way to learn than getting knee-high in the river or mud and having in-depth conversation. Her interests in culture, food, and the way the world works moved her towards minors in Anthropology and Earth/Planetary Science.
She went to Laurel High School where she was enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program, earning the IB Diploma. She is also a life-time member of the Girl Scouts of America and a recipient of the Girl Scout Gold Award where she worked with Laurel Elementary School staff and students doing environmental education. She hopes to find a career that takes data and research and uses it for outreach and education, helping to create a more sustainable world.
