BIOGRAPHY

Marianne is a member of the Library and Academic Technology (LAT) team and faculty beginning in the fall of 2015. As an Information Literacy Librarian, she coordinates the research education program and also serves as a Research Librarian in the Public Access Department. She teaches research techniques to students, partnering with faculty to enhance research instructions; co-creates online library learning materials, develops information literacy assessment, participates in library collection development and other public assess library duties. Her last positions were as Instruction Librarian, and Reference Librarian at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Baltimore, Maryland.

Marianne co-represents the college as local administrator, with Library & Academic Technology Dean, Ruth Shoge, for the 2016-2017 IMLS Sparks! Ignition Grant of nearly $25,000, Information Literacy Framework Cooperative Project for At-Risk Student Success in Smaller Colleges. Other partners include: Goucher College, Ursinus College, and Washington & Jefferson College. She is also an active member of the Maryland Library Consortium’s Maryland Information Literacy Task Force which will host Teaching Information Literacy in a Post-Truth World, the first summit of its kind in the state, this summer.

She writes periodic book reviews for Library Journal and occasionally, blogs. She began her library career as a passionate advocate of emergent literacy and the importance of recreational and family reading as a Youth Services Librarian in public libraries. She published two professional books on reluctant readers, with Libraries Unlimited, and has written and presented on the topic.

In her spare time Marianne creates with collage, painting, and wood engraving in her own studio practice. She is presently writing and illustrating a children’s book.
