After posting a 9-16 record last season (six more than last season), the women’s basketball team looks to continue the positive trend and compete for a bid to the Centennial Conference Tournament.

Fifth-year head coach Alisha Mosley returns 12 players and welcome four newcomers. The Shorewomen’s roster includes four seniors, three juniors, six sophomores, and three freshmen. With the mix of experience and youth, Mosley feels the preseason segment of the season was full of development.

“Preseason went great. Our kids really bought into growing as a team and getting stronger and quicker before practices started,” she said. “Our returners showed great leadership throughout the preseason which carried over to the start of practices. Our newcomers have added more depth and athleticism to our roster and should help us continue our upward growth.”

Mosley will look to her seniors in Brynne Brouse, Kat Moore Jordan Weir, and Gabby Winsky for contributions on and off the court. Leading the charge defensively will be Winsky who ranked third in the conference  with a 2.2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. She also shot 100% from the free throw line. 

The sophomore class is charged by guard Caitlyn Clark and forward Cassidy Quattro, who each had significant contributions in the freshman campaigns. Clark started 21 games, placing fifth in conference in assists while averaging 6.4 pointer per game. Quattro led the team in rebounding with 7.1 a game and is the team’s top returning scorer after averaging 8.6 points per game. 

Heading into their first game on Friday versus Goucher College, Mosley has set her expectations in a measurable way. 

“Our expectations are to compete in every game this season. You won’t be able to shut down one person and neutralize our team. We have so many capable scorers its going to be fun to watch,” Mosley explained. “Our small goals will lead to our bigger goals; offensively increase point production by pushing ball in transition and getting more shot attempts, increase FG%, defensively get better rebounding the ball and give up less points per game will lead to our  overall goal to finish top five in the conference.”

Following the opener versus Goucher, WC will take on St. Mary’s College of Maryland just one day later. The team’s home opener is on Tuesday, November 21st versus Swarthmore College.
