Weekly Recap 9/17
Volleyball:
The Shorewomen split a tri-match which started off with Gettysburg and ended with a three set sweep over Rosemont. To end the week, WC pushed their record to 9-1 on the season.
In the loss to Gettysburg, junior Kaitlyn Marino had a team-high 14 kills. Senior Taylor Horan had a team-best 27 assists. This was the first loss of the season for WC but it came to a Gettysvburg team with an 11-0 record.
To end the day, WC went out on the right foot with a dominant win versus Rosemont. Leading the way for WC was freshman Kylie Peets, who had five kills and two blocks. Her classmate Abby Smith also had five kills.
WC will continue their Centennial Conference Tournament quest when they travel to Bryn Mawr for a 7 p.m. match. The team will then compete in the Knights Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Field Hockey:
To kickoff a triple-header at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium, WC gave fans a double overtime thriller, as they went on to defeat Gettysburg 3-2.
To start the conference opener, freshman Grace Steele gave WC an early 1-0 lead. Gettysburg then went on to score back to back goals, giving them a lead. Freshman Kailyn Brandt then went on to tie the game with 11 minutes to go in the second half.
In overtime, junior Emily Pantazes scored the game winning goal for WC. Pantazes found the net after rebounding a shot by junior Olivia Auer.
WC will travel to Bryn Mawr on Wednesday when they go on to play a 4:30 p.m. conference game.
Women’s Soccer:
Despite falling to Gettysburg 4-2, the Shorewomen broke a scoreless streak against The Bullets that went back to 2009. WC had never scored two goals in a game before versus Gettysburg, as well.
The Shorewomen jumped out to quick 1-0 lead when junior Olivia Sabatino scored her fourth goal of the season. Junior Lindsay Russell also scored a goal when the headed in an assist from junior Arianna Sabatino.
WC hosts Delaware Valley on Wednesday, for a 7 p.m. non-conference match. They will also host #9 Johns Hopkins on Saturday in a 4 p.m. conference game.
Men’s Soccer:
The Shoremen suffered a 3-0 loss to Gettysburg College to end the triple-header on Saturday.
After giving up three goals in the first sixteen minutes, WC was able to hold Gettysburg scoreless for the rest of the game. Senior Michael Holowesko was the GooseNationTV player of game as he recorded three shots.
WC will travel to Wesley College on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match. The Shoremen stay on the road when they travel to Ursinus on Saturday for a 1 p.m. conference match.
Sailing:
The team went on to win the Colony Cup as they finished first out of twelve teams. This was the first regatta victory since the Spring of 2015.
Skipper and sophomore Andrew Vernon and sophomore crew Harber Carlson were third in the A division.
WC will compete in the MAISA Central Fall Qualifier on Saturday and Sunday this upcoming weekend.
Men’s Tennis:
Despite the quick schedule change, the Shoremen showed no lag, going 21-2 in singles matches and 9-1 in doubled at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
Juniors Chris Salisbury and Jake Sandler notched up wins at number win against their opponents from Virginia Wesleyan and Bridgewater. Seniors Justin Panepinto and Luke Weaver were winners at number two.
The Shoremen will compete at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on September 20th-October 2nd.
