Women’s Soccer:

The Shorewomen had a successful weekend going 2-0 after shutting out both Mary Washington and Marymount (Va.) behind two solid defensive performances while competing in the UMW Classic in Virginia.

WC opened the weekend on Saturday with a 1-0 victory behind senior Steph Scott, who scored the game winning goal in the 87th minute. Despite the lone goal in the first game, the Shorewomen offense picked up in the second, scoring 4 goals to cap-off the weekend.

The scoring was distributed evenly in the second game with goals from juniors Olivia Sabatino, Arianna Sabatino, Lindsay Russell, and freshman Emily Caldarelli. Caldarelli also totaled for two assists.

WC will travel to Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. non-conference match. The team will open up Centennial Conference play on Saturday with a 4 p.m. home contest versus Gettysburg College. 

Men’s Soccer:

The Shoremen competed in the Dickinson College Tournament this weekend where they played in two close games versus Gordon and Lycoming, falling short in both.

In WC’s game against Gordon sophomore Jonathan Luciani collected a game-high 15 saves. During the Shoremen’s second game of the weekend, senior Michael Holowesko scored the lone goal of the weekend which was assisted from freshman James Strine.

WC will look to push forward with two straight home games this week, starting on Wednesday when they host Salisbury at 6 p.m. Centennial Conference play will open up on Saturday when the Shoremen host Gettysburg at 7 p.m. to cap-off a triple-header at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.

Volleyball:

With wins over Shenandoah and Notre Dame (Md.), the Shorewomen improved their record to an impressive 7-0.

WC defeated Shenandoah 3-2 in a match where junior Kaitlyn Marino totaled for 24 kills, 20, digs, and four aces. She had a match-highs in kills and aces. In the team’s win over Notre Dame, Marino had match-highs of 14 kills and four blocks. Senior Taylor Horan had a match-best of 16 digs and tallied 30 assists. Horan moved into second place all-time in assists.

With the perfect start to the season, head coach Jamie Leventry is proud of the Shorewomen.

“We’re thrilled with our start,” Leventry said. “The team really fought hard today. it’s great that we’re finishing out five set matches this season where we were losing those matches last season. Overall it’s a great start to the season but we still have some work in front of us.”

Field Hockey:

The Shorewomen traveled to Stevenson University where junior Emily Pantazes scored the game winning goal giving the Shorewomen a 3-2 win.

On the offensive end, freshman Kailyn Brandt, sophomore Sophie Grabiec, and Pantazes each scored a goal. The goal for Brandt was the first of her Shorewomen career. Meanwhile, Pantazes now has three goals on the season. Junior goalie Morgan Domanico collected 8 saves, as well.

With the win, WC pushed their record to 2-2 as they head into an away non-conference match versus Salisbury on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Sailing:

WC opened up their regatta season placing 12th among 18 teams at Old Dominion’s Riley Cup. The team competed in 14 races on Saturday and 10 on Sunday.

Junior Paul Hart skippered to a 10th place finish in the A Division. Sophomore skipper Will Sunkler and junior crew Griffin Rodrigue sailed for WC in the B Division and finished 13th in their division.

The next contest for WC will be this weekend (Sept. 16/Sept.17) at Colony Cup.
