Weekly Recap 12/3

December 01, 2017
Both swimming and basketball were in action on the road this weekend.

Men’s Swimming:

The Shoremen found much success at Randolph-Macon’s Yellow Jacket Invitational, placing second out of nine total teams in the two-day event. WC finished just 10 points behind first-place Division I Howard.

Shining for WC was freshman Andrew Feeley who won the 200 backstroke in a school-record and meet-record. Feeley also won the 400 freestyle relay with another school-record in the event. Senior Kevin Mackenzie had large contributions with his third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.

WC will host York (Pa.) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Women’s Swimming:

The Shorewomen also had a great showing at the Yellow Jacket Invitational with a fourth-place finish out of 11 total teams.

Shining in the pool was senior Jenni Clune and junior Julia Portmann, who each won two individual events and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay team. Senior Katie Gorman had a good showing as she placed third in the 100 freestyle, seventh in 50 freestyle and seventh in the 200 freestyle.

The next meet for the team is also versus York (Pa.) on Saturday.

Women’s Basketball:

WC hosted McDaniel College on Tuesday and traveled to Gettysburg College on Saturday, both results weren’t in favor for the Shorewomen, but the team saw development from the young lineup

In the game Tuesday, sophomore Cassidy Quattro recorded her fifth career double-double after leading the team in both scoring (15), and rebounds (10). This was already Quattro’s second double-double this season. On Saturday Quattro scored eight, which tied for the team high as junior Alexis Krahling also had eight.

The Shorewomen will host Bryn Mawr College on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. conference contest. The team ends the week on the road at Haverford for a 1 p.m. tip-off.

Men’s Basketball:

The Shoremen started off the week with an incredible 14 point comeback when they hosted Cairn University on Tuesday, where they prevailed in overtime winning the game 78-75. WC then ended the week with a road game at Gettysburg College where they dropped the contest 86-70.

Versus Gettysburg, freshman Barry McCormick set a career-high in points with 13. Sophomore Josh Porteous followed with 13 points while senior Tas Dixon had 10 points and a game-high six assists.

WC will face a quick turnaround when they travel to Shenandoah on Monday in a 5 p.m. non-conference game. The Shoremen then host McDaniel College on Wednesday at 8 p.m. To finish off the week, they head to Elizabethtown on Saturday for a noon tipoff.
