The December 10 performance at Emmanuel Church will include works in German and English, from folk songs to Mozart and Handel. The Voice Department Fall Concert begins at 7:00 p.m.

CHESTERTOWN, MD—Thirteen Washington College students who studied voice with professor and countertenor Chris Dudley this fall will be showcased in a concert Wednesday, December 10, at 7:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Parish Church, 101 N. Cross Street.

The concert, which will run approximately 70 minutes with an intermission, is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature performances from eight solo performance students, singing a variety of pieces in German and English, ranging from English Folk and Shakespearean songs to works by Shubert, Mozart, Brahms, and Handel.  Washington College lecturer in music Grace Eun Hae Kim will provide piano accompaniment.

The concert will also feature performances from the Chamber Group, an 11-member ensemble directed by Dudley. Featured pieces will include four British choral pieces—Tallis’s “If ye Love me,” Purcell’s “Remember not Lord our Offences,” and Chilcott’s “God so Loved the World.” Piano and organ student Cindy Chan will accompany the singers.

Professor Chris Dudley earned a BA in Music from the University of East Anglia and a master’s degree in music performance and pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. He has performed as a soloist across the country with groups such as the Washington Bach Consort and the National Cathedral Choir.  Alfred Thigpen of the Washington Post singled out Dudley’s countertenor performance in a review of a New Dominion Chorale concert, writing, “His straight-tone voice, with an effortless if not otherworldly patina, could have filled two auditoriums.” Outside of his teaching at Washington College, Dudley serves as an emergency medical technician and ambulance driver, sells real estate with, and runs a full-time teaching studio.
