Veterans Day Concert & Dinner

U.S. Navy Band’s “Country Current” will entertain Veterans Day audience at Washington College on November 11.

CHESTERTOWN, MD—Washington College invites the community to celebrate Veterans Day, November 11, with a free concert by the U.S. Navy’s premier country-bluegrass band, Country Current. Part of the Department of Music’s Premier Artists series, the event will take place in Decker Theatre, Gibson Center for the Arts, with a start time of 7:30 p.m.

The College also welcomes the community to enjoy dinner in Hodson Dining Hall, second floor of Hodson Hall Commons, prior to the concert. Dinner is available to all for $9.53 per person and is free of charge to U.S. military veterans of any era.

There is no admission charge for the concert, but reservations are recommended. Free tickets are available at washcoll.edu/concert or by calling 410-778-7839.Ticketed arrivals will be guaranteed entry on a first-come, first-served basis until 7:15, at which point standby guests will be admitted. 

Founded in 1973, Country Current is a seven-member ensemble under the direction of Senior Chief Musician Keith Arneson. The musicians play a variety of instruments, from banjo and mandolin to pedal steel guitar and electric bass, blending contemporary country with cutting-edge bluegrass. As an ensemble, Country Current has performed around the world and with music luminaries that include Rhonda Vincent, J.D. Crowe, and The Lonesome River Band.  It has entertained top military leaders such as the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of the Navy, and presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. In 2011, Country Current became the first military band to perform at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.
