CHESTERTOWN, MD—The 2014 Riverfront Concert Series concludes on Thursday, July 17, at 6:30 p.m., with an unforgettable musical evening of “uke-pop” from the talented duo of Victoria Vox on the ukulele and Katie Chambers on cello. The free concert takes place on the Custom House lawn, corner of High and Water Streets. Bring a picnic, lawn chairs and blankets, and enjoy an evening of fun on the historic Chestertown waterfront. Lemonade and cookies will be provided, and kids are welcome.
Vox, a six-time WAMMIE winner (Washington Area Music Awards), has been honing her songwriting and voice for the past decade, performing across the U.S. and around the globe. She was given her first ukulele at age 24 and never looked back. The small, four-stringed instrument proved to be an excellent vehicle for her songwriting, while not getting in the way of her endearing vocals and seemingly simple, but rather smart songs. Originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin, Vox now lives in Baltimore.
Annapolis native Katie Chambers, who first picked up a cello at the age of 12, has since performed with numerous orchestras on both coasts. As a scholarship student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music she studied under Jean Michel Fonteneau and Mark Sokol of the Concord String Quartet. She now teaches cello, piano, violin, and viola with her company, Kinship Music Studios, and continues to play in orchestras and ensembles throughout D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.
The Riverfront Concert Series is sponsored by the C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience. This concert is made possible with funding from the Maryland State Arts Council. For more information, please contact Michael Buckley, Program Manager, at 410-810-7156.
