Washington College students interested in the law, banking, business, finance, and political science are encouraged to attend an April 7 panel discussion by three alumni who have made powerful legal careers.

Three Washington College alumni who have made successful careers in the field of law will return to campus for a panel discussion on insider trading. K. Edward Raleigh ’08, Geoffrey R. Garinther ’81, and Stacey McEvoy ’05 will discuss the legality of insider trading and the enforcement and penalization of improper conduct.

The April 7 event in Hynson Lounge begins at 5 p.m. Students interested in business, banking, finance, political science, and law are strongly encouraged to attend, and the event is free and open to the public.

Raleigh is a litigation associate at Fox Rothschild LLP’s Washington, D.C. office. He focuses on criminal and civil enforcement matters and business litigation. He represents companies and professionals during internal investigations, before government agencies, and in trials for matters including health care, securities, tax, banking, and investment advisor fraud as well as RICO issues. He also renders advice on sanctions issues and import/export controls. His past clients include investment funds, stockbrokers, a foreign bank, doctors, and law firms. Before joining Fox Rothschild, Raleigh was an associate at a boutique law firm that concentrated on complex civil and criminal litigation related to white-collar offenses.

Garinther is a partner at Venable LLP in Baltimore, serving as chair of the litigation division and as a member of the management committee. He is one of the most highly ranked defense attorneys for clients accused of white-collar crime, especially in the fields of healthcare fraud or antitrust violations, and he has taken nearly 50 trials to verdict. Before joining Venable, Garinther worked for 30 years as a federal prosecutor.

McEvoy is senior associate at Hogan Lovells in Washington, D.C., whose work deals primarily with corporate and commercial matters including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and the acquisition and disposition of assets. She has represented clients such as Lockheed Martin and PPG Industries, as well as others in the industries of aerospace, defense, and technology. While in law school, McEvoy was an associate notes editor for the George Mason Law Review.

The panel is presented by the pre-law program and the newly formed Washington College Alumni Law Affinity Network. Developed with the help of Raleigh, the Program for Pre-Law, the Center for Career Development, and Alumni Relations, WCLAN works through social media to connect WC alumni who have gone into the field of law.
