CHESTERTOWN, MD—Peruvian novelist Claudia Salazar Jiménez will speak Friday, April 11, at 4:30 p.m. in Norman James Theatre, William Smith Hall, on the topic of “Women in/at War: Gender, Political Violence and Lesbian Writing in South America.” She also will read in Spanish from her debut novel, La Sangre de la Aurora.

(The author was originally scheduled to speak in March, to denote International Women’s Day on March 8, but that visit was cancelled by inclement weather.)

A specialist in modern and contemporary Latin American literature, Claudia Salazar Jiménez earned a BA from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima and a PhD in Latin American Literature and Visual Culture at New York University. She is the founder of Perufest: the Festival of New Peruvian Cinema in New York and editor of the 2011 anthology Voces para Lilith: Literatura Contemporánea de Temática Lésbica en Sudamérica (Voices for Lilith: Lesbian Contemporary Literature in South America). 

Her talk, sponsored by the William James Forum, E. R. O. S., Sigma Delta Pi and the Department of Modern Languages, is free and open to the public.
