The author of the acclaimed You Know When the Men are Gone will read from her work at the Rose O’Neil Literary House Feb. 19.

CHESTERTOWN, MD—Siobhan Fallon, author of the highly acclaimed short-story collection You Know When the Men Are Gone, will read and discuss her work at the Rose O’Neill Literary House at Washington College on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The reading, entitled “Writing in Wartime – An Evening of Fiction with Siobhan Fallon,” will begin at 4:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The Literary House is located at 407 Washington Avenue.

You Know When the Men Are Gone, Fallon’s debut collection, explores life on the U.S. Army base at Fort Hood, Texas, during the deployment of a brigade to Iraq. It powerfully probes the emotional realities of military families and offers what Kirkus calls “apowerful, unsentimental portrait of America at war.” The New York Journal of Books described it as “the explosive sort of literary triumph that appears only every few years,” and both the San Francisco Chronicle and the New York Times named it a “Best Book of 2011.”

An Army wife herself, Fallon also writes a fiction series for Military Spouse Magazine. Theatrical productions of her stories have been performed by Word for Word in San Francisco and Stories on Stage in Denver. She received an MFA from the New School in New York City and currently lives in Falls Church, Va.
