Professor Scout Takes Two
CHESTERTOWN, MD—Terrence H. Scout has been teaching and entertaining business management students at Washington College for 30 years, and his service was doubly rewarded during 2015 Commencement, where he received both the Alumni Association’s Distinguished Teaching Award and the Omicron Delta Kappa Society’s Gold Pentagon Award, which recognizes “meritorious service to Washington College.”
The founding chair of the Department of Business Management and, since 2001, the Constance F. and Carl W. Ferris Chair of Business Management, Scout is known for his expertise, his humor and his global perspective. For the past 14 years he has led dozens of Washington College students overseas for summer study sessions on international business practices, visiting Europe and China to learn from leaders in business, government and academia. (Soon after Commencement, he and a group of students were off to Central Europe.)
Although he had planned to retire after the spring semester, he was convinced to return for at least one more round of classes in the fall. “We know we will never replace the irreplaceable Professor Scout,” says Emily Chamlee-Wright, Dean and Provost of the College, “and we are very pleased that he agreed to teach another semester while we search for the best possible addition to the Business Management Department.”
