President Bair Holds First-Friday Open House

September 04, 2015
Hynson-Ringgold House will welcome visitors with light refreshments as part of Chestertown’s First Friday festivities September 4 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

CHESTERTOWN, MD—Washington College president Sheila Bair invites the community to an Open House at her home, the historic Hynson-Ringgold House, corner of Water and Cannon Streets, September 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. during Chestertown’s First Friday festivities. Light refreshments will be served, and guests can enjoy the first floor of the Georgian brick residence, which was built in 1743 and once welcomed distinguished Revolutionary-era guests such as George Washington and Ben Franklin. Since the mid-1940s, the Hynson-Ringgold House has been home to Washington College presidents and their families and served as the venue for much of the College’s official entertaining.

Bair, who started her job as Washington College’s 28th president on August 3, is best known as the FDIC chair who guided the agency through the Great Recession during a tumultuous five-year term (2006-2011). She became widely known and admired for her forceful advocacy on behalf of bank customers and homeowners during the subprime-mortgage crisis and its fallout.  She will be officially installed during an inauguration ceremony Saturday morning, September 26, on the campus lawn.
