The Shoremen look to build off of the positive strides made last season.

The Shoremen ended last season with seven wins, mounting four more victories than compared to the previous season. Head Coach Aaron Goodman will look to continue that positive trend with a young team.

Goodman feels that since the beginning of the semester, the team started to take the right direction.

“Ever since returning to campus this Fall I was anxious and excited to get started with this team.   We had a tremendous preseason with Coach Jenkins and his staff.  We began practice stronger, more athletic, and quicker than last year,” Goodman explained. “Also impressive, is that all of our returners worked hard this summer and greatly improved as players.  As a coach, this dedication and passion is inspiring and motivates our staff to lead this team to reach their maximum potential.”

The roster for WC includes 14 total freshman and sophomores. “Our freshmen have jumped right in and competed in the preseason and in practice,” Goodman said. The rest of the lineup includes one senior and two juniors.

Despite being a young team, he feels the team has been constantly improving as preseason practice comes to a close. “Practices are extremely competitive, and we are improving. Our new guys have picked up new offensive and defensive concepts at a quicker pace than I expected, which has increased our practice pace, capacity, and detail,” he said.

The lone senior on the team is guard Tas Dixon. On top of being in a leadership role, Dixon is also looking to build off of his 7.8 points and 3.2 assists per game. Last season, he was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.

Goodman is also looking forward to the guidance provided by the rest of his leadership team.

“Our leadership team, Tas, Kevin McCormick, Josh Porteous, and Dallas Marshall, have done a tremendous job in maintaining team standards, expectations, and goals,” he said. “ I love our players and they love and care about each other which is a beginning recipe for positive growth.  If we can be an “older” young team and stay healthy, we are talented enough to surprise some teams in this conference.”

Porteous and Marshall each made an impact in their freshman seasons. Porteous averaged averaged 6.6 points per game and tied to lead the team in steals with 1.3 per game. Marshall led the team in points per game with 7.9. He also had the highest field goal percentage with 47.3% and rebounds with 4.4 per game.

The Shoremen open up their season on Wednesday, November 15th at 7:30 p.m. The team will host Swarthmore in their home-opener on Tuesday, November 21st at 8 p.m.

“We are warriors, and warriors are fun to coach.  I can’t wait to begin the next part of our journey- regular season games. We have a team that loves hoops, and has a great work ethic.”
