Presented by the College’s C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience, the Comegys Bight Fellowship Program offers stipends to support summer internships at some of the nation’s leading historical and cultural institutions. These paid internships annually provide a handful of students with high-level research experience on topics related to American history pre-1900.

Over the summer, Bigwood worked with David Ward, chief historian of the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. He helped research two upcoming exhibitions – one titled “In the Sweat of their Faces: Portraits of American Working People,” the other on Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee. Bigwood presented his findings at a special program on campus on October 18th.

A double-major in Physics and History, Bigwood is a longtime participant in the Starr Center’s Poplar Grove Project. At Washington College, he was a resident area director and an active member of the Musicians’ Union. He graduated from Friends School of Baltimore.
