Intern in Molecular Biology
-
Sean Garin ’19
Sean Garin ’19 is still considering what path his career will take, but his summer internship in the molecular biology division at the U.S. Naval Research Lab this summer—where he focused on genetically modified E. Coli—gives him an advantage, whether he decides to pursue medical school or scientific research.
“The best part about my research was the ability to use the lab work I did in class in a real, professional environment and recognize that my skills were beneficial to the scientific community,” says Garin, a double major in biology and chemistry. “This will definitely drive my senior capstone toward similar work with proteins, as it incorporates both biology and chemistry.”
Garin has found the study of biology at Washington College incredibly rewarding.
“The availability of professors makes understanding material much easier than that of a big school and the ability to personally know each professor opens a variety of doors for opportunities after undergrad.”
