Americans hope that our best and brightest will want to become the teachers of the next generation. At least in Gillian Bourassa’s case, we’ve got our wish.

Gillian graduated from WC summa cum laude with honors in History, took home the Knapp Prize in History, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She celebrated with a study abroad trip to Russia led by Professor Clayton Black, then returned to complete the Education Block and her student teaching internship.

She’s now a social studies teacher at Dulaney High School in Timonium, MD (Baltimore County) where she teaches world history and economics. She’s also begun work on a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum & Instruction at Loyola University Maryland, and plans to finish in 2014.

Of her education here, Gillian says, “The study of history directly prepared me to teach history, and I often refer to my notes and readings from courses at WC in preparing my lessons. The variety of courses I took as part of my liberal arts education has also benefitted me in making connections between various other disciplines and the history and economics I teach my students. I have benefitted professionally and personally from the strong relationships I built at WC with faculty members and classmates.”
