Steel pan drum artisan and performer Kyle Dunleavy will play a free concert at 12@Hotchkiss.
A good cook knows that working with the right pans can make the meal. But did you know the same is true for steel pan drumming? On April 1 at noon, catch the flavor from the steel pan artistry of Kyle Dunleavy in a concert with Washington College’s own Steel Revolution.
The concert, at Hotchkiss Recital Hall in the Gibson Center for the Arts, is part of the 12@Hotchkiss Series and is free and open to the public.
Kyle Dunleavy is a Philadelphia-based artisan of steel pan instruments who has created custom instruments for everyone from school ensembles to some of the greatest steel pan artists in the world. You can learn more about him at http://www.dunleavypans.com/ .
Steel Revolution is Washington College’s steel pan ensemble, and Dunleavy made nearly all of its instruments. Directed by John Leupold, they perform traditional Trinidadian music, reggae, popular songs, and Latin music. In addition to performance, students also study the social, historical, and cultural context of the ensemble.
