April 24, 2014
A special program for local schools on Thursday is followed by public performances Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26.

CHESTERTOWN, MD—The Dance Club of Washington College will present its annual Spring Dance Concert this week in Decker Theatre, Gibson Center for the Arts.  Performances – free to the public – will begin with an abbreviated program designed for local schools on Thursday April 24, at 1:15 p.m. and continue with full programs on Friday April 25, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 26, at 2:00 p.m.

The Dance Club, funded by the Student Government Association and run entirely by students, holds weekly technique classes in ballet, pointe, modern dance, jazz, tap, ballroom dance, lyrical, hip hop, dance conditioning, sassy jazz, and world dance forms.  Students from all majors and minors are invited to participate. In addition, the Dance Club takes field trips to workshops, festivals, concerts and performances; and presents workshops and master classes by guest teachers/artists. Twice a year it hosts a Community Dance Day, welcoming children from kindergarten through eighth grade to participate in different styles of dance. This spring’s Community Dance Day will be held on Saturday May 3, from 10:30-12:30 in the Johnson Fitness Center.

This year’s performance will feature dances designed by a corps of choreographers that includes Rachel Petrie, Carrie Hall, Chelsea Garzione, Anna Windle, Francesca DiPaula, Courtney Gowland, Kathryn Thoemke, Paula Mykytyn, Phoebe Shelor, Amanda Kloezli, Shenny Wang, Emily Harris and Rebecca DeSantis.

Rachel Petrie ’15 serves as the President of the Dance Club; her executive committee is Carrie Hall ’14, Paula Mykytyn ’15, and Anna Windle ’16.
